Black onyx semi precious gemstones are a rare find. In the marketplace today what is being sold is gray onyx that has been dyed. Unfortunately, because this process is permanent, it is rarely disclosed when sold. Onyx gemstones retain their semi-precious value even when dyed black. This is due solely to the demand and popularity of black onyx.
