Metal People Greet you at Portland Saturday Market

Meet the metal people at Portland Saturday Market.  Smiling and waiving, they greet you at one of the many entrances to the market.

They are great fun and the children find them fascinating, as they insert and watch the coins follow the track.

Both of the metal people have coin paths built into them, however this greeter has a secondary job function with the market.   See the bell being held, in the bottom right hand side of the picture?   That bell is used to signal the end of each market day.  Yes, people ring it all the time, yet it is very distinctive ring when it sounds for closing.

Where do you find the metal people at Portland Saturday Market, easy, the sit by the red information booth at the start of the first aisle on that side into the market.

You may also be wondering what happens to the coins collected by the metal people.  The funds collected are used to help defray the growing costs of running Portland Saturday Market as it gets ready to finish its 39th year and prepares for the start of its 40th year of operation.

Portland Saturday Market opens the first Saturday in March and runs all the way through till December 24th.  And for those last minute shoppers we are open the entire week before Christmas.

Market hours are as follows:  Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday 11:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Wish we had something like this where I live, but our community isn't big enough to support such a thing, methinks. I'll have to enjoy it vicariously though you, I suppose :)

Thought I would let you know, I'm sharing the blogging love by nominating your blog for the One Lovely Blog Award - come see:

Thank you Connie "Sunfire", for the nomination.

Weekends do not see us on-line nearly as much with the long days at the market. You most definitely can enjoy it vicariously as we post most every Saturday about the market. Of course you could always plan a shopping vacation.
