Sweet Things; Noteworthy Blogs 12-27-12

Sweets, yum.  No sweets in general are not Paleo, but every now and then you have to treat yourself.  We work and food is one of our delightful indulgences to begin with, yet we rarely indulge ourselves.  When we do indulge we look for comfort, easy to make yummy goodness.

Cake is not our first choice, though we did find this one and really enjoyed it.  The chocolaty goodness with a Paleo friendly recipe and it is made with pumpkin.  The Unrefined Kitchen blog is where we found this delightful treat.  They have many other recipes that they have shared, we still have lots to try.

Pumpkin bars, yum.  While traditionally a fall treat they are good any day of the year.  Ok, I have to admit I have not spent much time on this blog, The Nourishing Gourmet, looking around.  though if the pumpkin bars are any indication, I need too.  Not only do I need to I would be foolish not too.

Don't worry if cake and bars are not your thing, I am positive that along the way, we will be sharing more of our favorites.  As food plays a big part in our lives. For its value in connecting with others, spending a leisurely evening over a meal with friends and family.  Good things come to those who feast together!

Super Fast Dinners; Noteworthy Blogs 12-20-12

December is a crazy busy time of year and we all have those nights where we just need a super fast easy meal that is healthy.  For us here at Entwined Vines Jewelry this is even more important, yet also a challenge as we have to avoid gluten, wheat, and corn.  Since we found this out and shifted to a Paleo lifestyle, we have more energy, feel better and are better able to handle life's curve balls that are tossed our way.

Yet, we do find it a challenge on occasion when busy and not a lot of time to cook.  Thankfully, their are a great many people willing to share their knowledge.  The tips and tricks they use to survive such circumstances and on occasion what they come with on the fly...

Paleo Parents posted shared an experience that involved an extended shopping trip, late home, late dinner with no plan and coming up with a Paleo Salad on the fly.

       Quick Dinner Meatball Salad

Also check out Fast Paleo for quick and super easy meal ideas.  It is a recipe sharing site, you never know what you might find.  Maybe give the Spicy eggplant with Roasted Garlic Paste a try, I know it is on my list to try in January.

Sail Boats at Portland Saturday Market

Constellation Pond Yachts makes collection hand-made sail boats, that are guaranteed to sail.  These delightful boats come in a variety of sizes and sail styles.  Owned and operated by Jeff and Linda Patterson they provide on the spot demonstrations of how the sail boats work.  Talks about the care of your sail boat to assist in the longevity of your purchase for years of enjoyment.

Oh, how could I forget to mention the variety of colors.  The yellow one in the middle really stands out.

Personally I like the British racing green and the dark red ones.

These make great gifts for the hard to shop man in your life. Father's especially seem to like them.

Yes, that is water you see.  Jeff sets up his faithful Rubbermaid tote to demonstrate how the boats sails.

Boat stands for display, can be bought separately.

Noteworthy Blogs 12 - 13 -12

Garden history and lore is a favorite pasttime of mine.  It holds a fascination for me that I can't seem to get enough of.  "Words with a Garden History",  find what "Favela" originally meant as a gardening term.

I love the above blog, gardening is one of my guilty pleasures that I have not had enough time to indulge in during the last couple of years.   Garden blogs are a new obsession that I just recently found and have started indulging in.  Prior to that it I have been known to indulge in gardening books.  Both the useful and the ones with big glossy pictures.  Pictures of practical small gardens, huge impractical gardens, and plant identification books that contain both how to grow and identify the plants as well as history and the lore of  each plant.

Ha, see I am completely obsessed with all growing things, whether they have a practical use or our grown for the shear pleasure of them.  Do you share my obsession with gardening?  What guilty pleasure or hobby to you indulge in for the sheer enjoyment of it?

Children's Perspective of Portland Saturday Market

Have you ever stopped and thought about what a shopping day is like from the perspective of children?  One day we did, while we were working Portland Saturday Market. While we chose not to undertake interviewing the little tykes,as we realized this would be too daunting of a task, both from a working perspective and disruptive for parents; we did play around with what their visual perception would be like.

It really is different when you take yourself down to their height and changes how its viewed.  While I have walked by this booth numerous times, not once have I ever been inclined to curl up on the pillows.  Changing perspective changed that.  This image really does look inviting to curl up with those fabulous pillows.

Color, fun colors. Ok, I know this is my favorite tye dye booth, yet depending the height of the child all they are going to see is the color with no idea of what the actual item is.

Same with this photo, the photo captures a wider shot than most children take it.

Really can't tell you what the children seeing this booth from this height would be thinking.  Just seeing the pictures of images from a different height really drives home that the sensory input received by different people, really changes the experience.  Next time you are with a child and they comment on something that doesn't make sense, stop and change your perspective.  Look at the surroundings from their height, their perspective, you will be amazed at how different your outings with the children in your life will be.

Noteworthy Blogs 12-6-12

Hi all, Noteworthy blogs is going to be short and sweet today!

Oh Snap! Lets Eat!  is a blog mostly about food, but also travel and other items.  The author Tina, lives in Atlanta Georgia and blogs once a week or so.

Jim's Marketing Blog is geared towards business owners, I really like his writing.  Take a look at "Are Your Competitors Controlling your Potential", he doesn't give you all the answers.  Instead he presents it and asks questions that get you to thinking about what you are doing in the day to day running of your business.

What are some of your favorite blogs you follow?
